It’s not perfect but it offers a lot for a very modest outlay Note: The maker sent me a review sample for evaluation, the opinion of the product is my own personal viewModel: Neewer NW985CThis flash unit comes boxed with a clip on diffuser, a padded bag (with a section to store the flash stand) a flash stand with a brass thread and instructions. Third party flash makers have in recent times been “upping their game” offering more and more features on flash units that cost far less than OEM makers. This model has a significant important addition over some budget flashes, the ability to do HSS (high speed sync) older third party models were usually limited to manual or basic TTL, HSS can be very useful as it allows you to use fill flash at all shutter speeds (even above the cameras official sync speed) it does this by very fast strobe bursts, whilst range is limited it means you can use fill flash outside in bright light with faster lenses, and it can be useful for some flash tasks (which require a…

The instructions are not great being a poor translation from chinese but they do … This is a brief review for the NW985C and not the other flash listed on this page.I’ll be honest and state that I haven’t used flash since my film days and I am on a steep learning curve, as such I am unable to do a comparison between this and other branded flash units.Firstly the flash arrived branded a Triopo and not Neewer, it is a chinese brand and at a budget price, but then I am not in the market for paying hundreds of £’s for a Canon or Nikon flash. Only time will tell as to the reliability of this flash, and if it fails I will update this review at that time. The flash does have all the features listed as above and is seemingly very intuitive to use. The instructions are not great being a poor translation from chinese but they do give you the gist of what to do. The only thing I really struggled with was getting the lens focal length to come up on the display… to do this you need to put the AF zoom in auto (default is manual) by using the…
