Digital Di-II generation telephoto lens – The lens was designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras with sensors up to 16x24mm and delivers a high image quality with regard to resolution, contrast and sharpness. An ideal second lens to complement the standard kit lens bought together with your SLR. The 55-200mm opens the important tele-range and can be used for portrait, nature, sport, theatre, and people photography. The lens uses a new optical system to limit the angle of incidence of the beams of light falling onto the image sensor. This is necessary when taking into account the physical circumstances of the sensor and to avoid vignetting. The occurring rays are limited to a narrow frame throughout the entire focal length range. Furthermore the 55-200mm was optimized with regard to resolution, stray light and chromatic aberration, throughout the entire focal range so that consistently high-quality images can be captured at all focal lengths. Please note: The Nikon mount is only compatible in the MF mode with the following Nikon cameras: D40, D40X and D60. This is due to fact that these 3 cameras require lenses with a built-in motor. The Nikon version of this lens does not have a built-in motor. Please note that Di II lenses are made for the exclusive use on digital SLR cameras with image sensors smaller than 24mm x 16mm. Di II lenses cannot be used together with a full format or 35mm SLR camera, as their image sensors are not able to cover the entire area of full format resulting in dark corners of the (i.e. vignetting becomes noticeable).

Buy this lens! Absolutely fantastic lens for the price! I bought this to go with my Canon EOS 400D and it has immediately replaced the kit lens as my walk-around lens (I also have a canon 300mm lens too). The lens itself is very compact and is the same length as the kit lens when at 55mm.The best point about this lens is that it produces razor-sharp images, the best you could get for the amazingly cheap price. Get it while it’s this price! Not only this, it comes with a lens hood so you don’t need to spend money on a hood too.I’d recommend this lens to anyone on a budget – buy this lens, you won’t be disappointed!

A good, useful telephoto to follow on from the kit lens The Tamron AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 Di II LD telephoto lens is targeted at people who’ve just started with a DSLR, played with the 18-55mm kit lens, and then decided that they want more range without having to spend a vast amound of money while they’re still getting to know the camera. I was such a person, and I bought this lens after reading reviews of its good optical quality for its price.Optically, this lens produces sharper and somewhat more detailed results than the kit lens, although not quite so sharp as the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II I also keep in my bag (remember: this is a prime, so it SHOULD be damn sharp). The colour reproduction is conservative, but certainly not dull. At the 200mm end, you do need either a tripod and mirror lock-up or fast shutter speed to avoid blur in the images as the lens lacks image stabilisation, but then again what you expect for a sub-£100 lens? The Tamron concentrates on picture quality, and that’s somewhat more important. The…

Nice One The original Canon lens at 55mm max was a bit restrictive when taking pictures from places where it was impossible to get close. I needed a lens that ideally was good for portraiture as well as getting closer to subjects withour loss of definition. This lens covers what I was looking for and picture quality is excellent. Tamron have been making lens’s for a long time and I had one back in the old 35mm days and the dedication to producing good quality products continues today. This lens represents such good value for your money and if one bears in mind the limitations of the lack of USM (is that worth 2-3 times more?) it is a must buy for anyone looking to go that bit further than the standard lens. Well recommended. Should also mention it does fit my EOS 350D.
