A small player with big features!!! Just received this as a replacement for my 5 years old Samsung Blu-ray player. First impressions are that this is a very compact player, roughly the size of a hardback book, but packing a serious amount of functionalitySet-up was very quick and simple, including the wi-fi network connectivity. Once connected the player recognized that there was a software update available and this was initiated and completed quickly, although much of that ‘upgrade’ time is down to your broadband speed and how quickly the update can be downloadedFrom there I was able to set-up the SMART features, including a few apps, such as Facebook and Amazon Prime VideoLastly, I have tested disk playback, using a 24 Season 7 blu-ray disk and playback is exactly as expectedIf there is a downside, and for me this really isn’t an issue, it would be regarding the lack of onboard memory which would allow online blu-ray content, which means that if you use such features…

Small, modern and extremely versatile I wanted to get a Blu Ray player in December last year (2014) when my old dvd player went west, so searched Amazon for an affordable, favourably reviewed model. As I checked out the Sony models it was highlighted that the players currently being sold would be superseded come March 2015. I pre-ordered my BDPS5500 and waited in anticipation for the day it was to be delivered. Upon receiving it, my first thought was “wow, wasn’t expecting something so small and light” and my second thought was “oh great, the usual ‘quick set up guide’ why are these electronic devices never supplied with a full, proper manual?”. Anyway, plugged it in, switched it on, and was led through a simple and quick set-up and software upgrade.Once this was done I explored the menu. DVD disk, USB connection, DLNA (for connection to home computers), screen mirroring and Apps were all present and correct.
